The index covers the following five areas:
The Governance pillar evaluates the foundational principles and structures that guide an organisation’s approach to tax management. It assesses how the organisation formulates and communicates its tax strategy, monitors compliance, manages risk, and interacts with external entities, fostering a culture of responsibility and transparency.
The Tax Risk and Planning pillar considers the influence that tax has or could have on business decisions or operations. As well as assessing how the expected tax outcome is taken into account, the pillar factors in the management of tax risk.
At its core, the International Compliance pillar explores the organisation’s ability to harmonize its tax practices with global standards. It focuses on the intricacies of international tax compliance, transfer pricing, and the allocation of profits across borders, ensuring an equitable and responsible approach to taxation.
The Stakeholder Engagement pillar revolves around the communication and understanding of tax across the interconnected relationships between the organisation and its stakeholders. It encompasses the inclusive approach to tax policy development, the integration of tax considerations into broader corporate sustainability efforts, and the transparency and accountability that underpin these interactions.
The Environmental pillar assesses the organisation’s commitment to environmental sustainability through the lens of taxation. It explores the establishment of controls, data management practices, proactive planning, and the evaluation of incentives to promote environmentally responsible practices and foster a sustainable future.
